Tips for use:
Please remember, these are only
guidelines and individual results
may vary.  Experimentation and
testing is always the best way to
determine and develop the best
methods for your application.
We recommend trying the following method:

~ Melt the wax and allow to heat to no hotter than 175.
~ Add dye and stir well until dye is fully dissolved.
~ Adding Fragrance:  Years ago it was recommended to wait until the wax cooled down to around 120 degrees to add FO.  It has been commonly thought for many years that you don't want to add FO at too high a temp or too early so as not to burn off any of the fragrance and weaken it.  In more recent years many have discovered that adding FO at a higher temp of about 170 seems to help increase the scent throw, contrary to former beliefs.  Adding it at this higher temp seems to help the fragrance molecules more fully and evenly incorporate with the wax, which can help avoid any possible separation or oil seepage with heavier fragrances that tend to be more difficult to blend.
~ Stir well to blend fragrance oil, and allow wax to cool further to approximately 100 degrees or less (when the wax thickens to a slushy stage), and pour into jars.

In our experiments, we've found that pouring at this cool of a temperature creates a pretty smooth creamy appearance on the sides as well as the tops.  Occasional flaking or crusting may appear on tops, but can be easily touched up with a heat gun if desired.  Or you can try setting them in a warm oven to smooth out, or repour a thin finishing layer on top.

* For votives or tarts, we recommend using our silicon mold release spray.  Add approx. 5 tbsp Stearic Acid per pound to harden and aid in mold release.  It may also be necessary to place candles in the freezer for a few minutes to help release from molds.  EZ Soy can also be blended with beeswax, palm wax, or paraffin if desired.

** It is not a good idea to pour any type of wax down your drain!  We recommend pouring any leftover wax into a rubbermaid container for future use, and wiping out your pouring pot with paper towel to remove as much excess as possible before washing in the sink.

~ Wicking:
Soy waxes require larger wicks than paraffins, so be sure to upsize your wicks.  Any type of wick will work, but most people prefer cotton coreless wicks such as Eco, CD, LX, HTP, Performa,
RRD or even Hemp.  We recommend buying wick sampler packs to experiment, as testing will be necessary to determine the right wick for each application.  Different fragrance and dye
combinations may require different sizes in wicks, so test burning is very important!

~ Fragrance:
Most fragrances work well in this wax, but as with any natural wax, some will perform better than others.  Sampling and testing is the best way to determine which scents work best, but to help you we have marked the scents that we know work good in soy on our fragrance pages.  This does not mean that if a scent does not have the mark it will not work!  We carry over 500 scents, so they could not all be tested at once.  If you find scents on our list that have worked well for you, please let us know and we will add them to the list!

~ Dyes:
We recommend Dye Chips , Blocks or Dye Flakes, or our Pro Powders for best results and less frosting in soy waxes.  Liquid candle dyes can be used in soy and many people have success with them, but be aware that most Liquid Dyes contain solvents that can increase frosting in soy.
